Katarina Wit started skating when she was five. Then, her talent became apparent and she was invited to Karl-Marx-Stadt's school for special needs. The coach Jutta was also in attendance. Witt was able to make her debut season in 1982 when she finished second at the World Championships held in Copenhagen. The grace and elegant style of Witt caught the eye of all and she has been a dominant figure skater ever since. Olympic Erfolg At Sarajevo, at the Sarajevo Winter Games in 1984, Katarina won the gold medal in figure skating for women after a fiercely contested contest. A few years later she was able to win an even tougher competition. Although she lost in the free-skating contest, medal was given to her for her performance on the compulsory figures and the short program. Witt became the women's first multiple winner in figure skating following Sonja Henie. Hall of Fame Witt, who had achieved success in the world of film and television acting, then returned to figure skating in 1994 to compete in the Lillehammer Winter Games 1994. In spite of not receiving a gold medal, Witt won over the audience. In 1995, Witt received her induction into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame.
